| All fire and smoke seals depicted here are have been tested to BS 476 Pt 23, 22 and 31.1 standards as appropriate by the manufacturer. Toxic smoke can be fatal at temperatures too low to activate intumescents so the use of smoke seals prevents fumes and smoke spreading before temperatures are high enough to activate the intumescent seal material. In normal use the seals act as draughtproofing. Our combined fire and smoke seals come in three main configurations.
All fire seals exceed relevant BS 476 and BS 5588 standards. Seals are subjected to durability testing, simulating actual working conditions, in addition to standard fire certification approval procedures. |

| All seal types are intumescent, swelling under the effects of heat when temperatures rise. Above 150 degrees centigrade the intumescent materials attain a final volume up to 10 times the original packed volume. This expansion seals fire and hot smoke into the affected area, preventing transfer into unaffected areas. Seals use either a special graphite based compound (Astroflame), mono-ammonium phosphate (Sealmaster) or Palusol ® (Lorient) as the intumescent material. Casings are manufactured from a rigid PVC based material or Aluminium. The combined smoke and fire seals are manufactured to provide a stable continuum of protection. While high temperatures cause the smoke seal to eventually degrade, the intumescent expansion takes effect well before the smoke seal's integrity has been breached, thus keeping smoke and fire under control at all times. Below is the range of fire and smoke seals we sell at our online shop. The range includes multi-purpose seals with acoustic (sound reduction) and draughtproofing functions as well as certified fire and smoke stop properties. We can supply Lorient Fire and Smoke Seals to order.
