All seal types are intumescent, swelling under the effects of heat when
temperatures rise. Above 150 degrees centigrade the intumescent materials
attain a final volume up to 10 times the original packed volume. This
expansion seals fire and hot smoke into the affected area, preventing
transfer into unaffected areas.
These seals use Palusol ® , based on Sodium Silicate, as the intumescent
material. Casings are manufactured from a rigid PVC based material.
The combined smoke and fire seals are manufactured to provide a stable
continuum of protection. While high temperatures cause the smoke seal
to eventually degrade, the intumescent expansion takes effect well before
the smoke seal's integrity has been breached, thus keeping smoke and fire
under control at all times.
